What AI will never replace

A conductor walking the length of a freight train in a snowstorm to physically inspect couplings, air brake hoses, and shifted cargo cannot be replaced by remote monitoring alone — the environment is too variable and too harsh. Railroad workers respond to derailments, hazmat spills, and track obstructions in remote locations where they must improvise physical solutions with whatever equipment is on hand. Hand-throwing manual switches, flagging grade crossings during signal failures, and physically guiding trains through work zones require a human body on the ground in unpredictable terrain.
